Outdoor products on a marketplace are often photographed in dry weather and described for a climate that is not yours. In the UK the useful questions are about water, wind, rust and where the item sleeps from November to March.
Check whether a cover, cushion or battery is included, and whether the frame is powder-coated steel, timber that needs oil, or plastic that becomes brittle in a frost. If it is electrical, confirm the plug and the IP or weather rating the manufacturer actually states.
What to check
- Materials and whether they need a cover, oil or indoor winter storage.
- Dimensions once open, including parasols, tables and folded chairs.
- Water resistance only where the listing states a rating, not where the photo looks sturdy.
- UK plug and outdoor electrical safety notes for anything powered.
- Replacement covers, cushions or blades.
Easy mistakes
- Cushions shown on furniture that are a separate listing.
- Timber described as hardwood with no species and no care instruction.
- Solar lights specified for a brightness that only happens in full midday sun.
Questions before you buy
- Where will you store it when it is wet for a week?
- Is the cover in the box?
- Can you still buy the cushion or the blade next year?
