Clothing sizes are not a shared standard. A UK 12, a EU 40 and a “medium” can be three different garments, and marketplace brands often cut small or long. Use the garment measurements in centimetres if the listing provides them, and compare those with a similar item that already fits.
Fabric and washing decide whether you still like it after a month. Look for fibre content, lining, and the wash code. Then check who sells it. A fashion return is only easy when the offer you click allows the return you expect.
What to check
- The size system, UK, EU or a brand chart, and a centimetre measurement if one is published.
- Fibre content, stretch, lining and transparency.
- Care instructions and whether the colour is likely to need a cold wash or a garment bag.
- The seller and the return window for clothing on that offer.
- Photos of the garment flat or on a body, and whether the model size is stated.
Easy mistakes
- A size chart that belongs to a different product in the same brand family.
- “One size” with no measurement at all.
- Embellishments that cannot be washed the way the main fabric can.
Questions before you buy
- Which measurement on the chart matches a garment you already wear?
- Can you return it if the colour or fit is wrong, and in what condition?
- Is the fabric the one named in the title, or only in a photo caption?
