A furniture listing is a measurement problem before it is a style problem. Note the width, depth and height, then the door swing, the mattress size, or the knee space under a desk. Photos compress depth, so the centimetres in the specification are the part to trust.
Also read who delivers it and how it arrives. Some items are flat-pack with a small set of tools. Others are heavy panels with a returns process that is nothing like posting back a book. Check the delivery description on the offer itself.
What to check
- All three external dimensions, plus any size that affects use, such as seat height or internal shelf space.
- Maximum load if the listing states one, especially for shelves, office chairs and beds.
- Material and finish: real wood veneer, board, metal or fabric, and how it is cleaned.
- Whether assembly is required and whether fixings are included.
- The returns method for a large parcel, printed on the offer before you order.
Easy mistakes
- A colour name that does not match the room lighting in your home.
- “Standard” sizes that are not the UK mattress or desk size you assumed.
- Weight limits missing from the bullets and only implied by the photo.
Questions before you buy
- Will it fit through the doorway and the stair turn, not only the room?
- Can one person assemble it, or does the manual expect two?
- What happens to the packaging if you need to return it?

The checks on this page are ready to use on a live Amazon listing. A product card is added only after that listing has been checked. It will show its own photo, a short note, and a Sponsored button. This empty shelf is not a recommendation.
